Policronio Dulay sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died before he could be given treatment at the hospital where he was rushed to.

Policronio Dulay, a retired policeman, first served as a councilor for three consecutive terms. He was supposed to run for his third term as vice mayor of Kabacan this year.

Dulay, a former police officer before he entered politics, usually moved around town without a bodyguard because there had been no threats on his life and he had no known enemies, a source, who requested anonymity, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Policronio Dulay’s bid for a second term as vice mayor of Kabacan is being challenged by Datumaidu Sultan, an ethnic Maguindanaon.

Police Supt. Leo Ajero said the motive behind the killing has yet to be identified.

The family of Policronio, meanwhile, refused to give a statement on the incident.
